ProgressBoard/Explanation

(Redirected from Progressboard)

Improving quality and completeness is a slow process, it involves a lot of product edits. A Dashboard does not change much each month. Updating these monthly is not very useful.

In every country however many products are added and improved. In order to demonstrate this work a (monthly) Progress Board is available. The Progress Board shows by how much the situation for a country has changed: products that have been added, product evaluation increase (Nutriscore, NOVA), quality that has been improved and products that have been completed. This is shown in 3 graphs.

Coping with growth

Improvement Netherlands March 2024

Products are added all the time. And the more products there are, the more work it will be to check and repair products. And this is necessary to be able to enhance products with Nutriscore an NOVA for instance. The main question is whether OFF and its editors can keep up with growth. Some months may be easier than others. This is all shown in the Improvement graph. An example for the Netherlands is shown here. The graph shows the situation for the Netherlands in the last year for multiple months. It shows the growth percentage of products sold in the Netherlands in blue, the growth in products with a Nutriscore in green and the growth of products with NOVA in grey. In most cases the Nutriscore and Nova bars are larger than blue growth bars. This implies that the product completeness can keep up with the growth. The yellow bars show the increase in detected quality. Clearly these must be positive, although OFF is not always able to repair each product due to producer errors.

OFF strives to have a database with complete and correct products. Complete means that it is able to calculate Nutriscore and NOVA. And correct means that there are no errors in transcribing ingredients and nutritional values form the packaging. OFF shows what is provided by the producer. This can only be achieved if there are product images available. These product images can be looked at and transcribed into the OFF database. Sometimes the images are available, but the transcription has not been done yet: the reparable products. The graph shows the number of products that have this issue has decreased, i.e. with completed ingredients, nutritional values, categories or data quality. If the number is negative more products have been added than could be completed. The graph shows the repair effort for the Netherlands for three different months. In blue the completion of ingredients, in green the completion of Nutritional Values, in grey the completion of category assignment and in yellow the improved data quality.

Top products

Completed Top Products March 2024 Italy

Each year a list is made of the top scanned products per country. The latest list dates from 2023. The top scanned products are divided into 5 tiers: 1.000, 5.000, 10.000, 50.000 and 100.000 scans. These most scanned products should be completed first, as this will give the users a better experience. Unfortunately not all products are easily completed as often images are not available. However those that have images can be checked and completed. The graph shows how many of these products have been completed. The example graph here shows that some 200 products of the top products in Italy have been completed. The different colours show the five top tiers.
